Toby and Korja met while working together in the Scene Shop of the Experimental Theater. For a year and a half they worked side by side, becoming close friends. 405399_10150616458754474_1865617536_nAfter graduation, their friendship  grew into something more. After six months of dating they moved in together, and have been inseparable ever since. Toby spent a year and a half doing trail work and backcountry camping for the Washington Conservation Corps and then started working over-hire for several local theater companies as a carpenter, electrician, rigger, and scenic painter. Korja started working part-time as a theater technician and took any roles she could get her hands on. Over the past few years she’s played a sister, a lover, a soldier, a weasel, a bridesmaid, and a bunny rabbit. After nearly six years, they have found themselves working together again, as the Assistant Technical Director and Box Office Manager at Harlequin Productions.

found this on the beachIn September 2013, Toby and Korja spent a few days vacationing in a sweet little cabin on the Washington coast. One morning they bundled up and went for a short beach walk, knowing that the beach was too sandy for a good agate hunt (much to Korja’s disappointment). Little did she know, Toby had planted a huge agate on the beach for her to find. “Hey, check that thing out,” he said. She looked down to find an agate at her feet, and chuckled knowing that he had planted it for her. “You loser,” is the last thing she said to him before she saw that the agate had the words “Marry Me!” written on them. He proposed with the ring that his father had given his mother, and everything about the moment was absolutely perfect: sweet, simple, and sincere.

One day two people come together in mutual weirdness and fall in love.”
